Spreader Beam

PTI engineers and fabricates heavy-duty spreader beams (also written spaeder beams) for safe, efficient multi-point lifting of plates, modules, vessels and awkward loads. Our spreader beams are custom-designed for each lift, combining precise structural steel fabrication, certified welding and certified proof-load testing to meet project and statutory requirements.

Types of Spreader Beam:

  • Single-piece Spreader Beams — simple, robust beams for fixed lifts with a defined span and lifting points.
  • Telescopic / Adjustable Spreader Beams — variable span for flexible slinging arrangements and multiple load sizes.
  • Modular Spreader Beams — bolted sections for easy transport and reconfiguration on site (see also our lifting beams).
  • Articulated Spreader Beams — with swivel/pendant fittings for complex load geometry and dynamic loads.
  • Low-headroom Spreader Beams — compact designs for restricted height lifts.

Typical Applications:

  • Lifting precast concrete panels, steel plates and modules.
  • Installation of HVAC units, tanks and vessels.
  • Offshore and oil & gas multi-point lifts, part of material handling fabrication
  • Bridge segments, heavy machinery placement and plant erection.
  • Port/shipyard cargo handling and project lifts.

Design & Engineering:

  • Custom CAD & lifting analysis for every beam — span, sling angles, WLL and factor of safety calculated to suit the load and lift plan.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) available for critical or asymmetric loads.
  • Designed to client standards or regulatory codes (EN 13155, ASME B30 series, local statutory requirements) as request.

Materials & Fabrication:

  • Fabricated from high-strength structural steels (S355/S355JR, equivalent grades or stainless where required).
  • CNC cutting for precise padeyes, bolt patterns and end fittings.
  • Welds performed by certified welders in accordance with AWS/ASME standards; weld procedures documented with WPS/PQR where required.
  • Stress relief and dimensional control for large single-piece beams.

Lifting Hardware & Accessories:

  • Integrated padeyes, shackles, swivel hoist rings or certified lifting eyes (rated and marked).
  • Removable sling bars, spreader bars and taglines.
  • Built-in load monitoring options (load pins / dynamometer integration) on request.
  • Protective end caps, lifting guides and transport brackets as needed.

Testing, Certification & Documentation:

  • Proof load testing to client or statutory level (commonly 1.25× to 1.5× WLL) with certified test report.
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) — MPI/UT as required for critical welds.
  • Full documentation pack: Material Test Certificates (MTC), welding records, NDT reports, proof load certificates, tag plates and operation/inspection manuals.
  • Tagging and serial numbering for traceability and future inspection.

Surface Finish & Protection:

  • Shotblasting/surface preparation followed by primer and industrial paint, or hot-dip galvanizing for long-term corrosion protection.
  • Optional rubber or polymer contact pads to protect delicate loads or coated surfaces.
  • Safety & Inspection Guidance
  • Supplied with a lift plan and recommended sling configuration.
  • Regular inspection schedule advised — visual checks before each lift; periodic certified inspection/recertification per local regulations.

Operator training and on-site commissioning available from PTI.

Lead Times & Customisation:

  • Rapid sketches & feasibility review on enquiry.
  • Typical lead times vary by complexity — modular units are faster; large one-piece beams require longer fabrication and testing windows.
  • Custom capacities from a few tonnes to several hundred tonnes — tell us your load, spans and sling angles and we’ll provide a detailed proposal.

Why PTI for Spreader Beam Fabrication?

  • End-to-end service: engineering → structural steel fabrication → certified welding → proof testing → onsite commissioning.
  • Safety-first approach with traceable documentation and compliance support.
  • Flexible manufacturing: single-piece, telescopic or modular spreaders to suit transport and site constraints.
  • Experience across construction, oil & gas, ports, heavy industry and precast sectors.
