Lifting pad

PTI designs and fabricates heavy-duty lifting pads, load distribution pads, and sacrificial pad systems that protect loads and lifting equipment while ensuring safe, even load distribution during lifts. Our lifting pad solutions combine engineered design, precision structural steel fabrication, and protective facing options (rubber, polymer, or sacrificial plates) for applications ranging from delicate finished surfaces to abrasive industrial loads.

Types of Lifting Pads & Pad Blocks:

  • Solid Steel Lifting Pads: Robust steel pads for extreme loads and harsh environments.
  • Rubber-Faced Lifting Pads: Steel core with bonded rubber face to protect coated or finished surfaces.
  • Polymer / UHMW Pads: Low-friction, wear-resistant pads for sliding and positioning operations.
  • Sacrificial Pad Plates: Replaceable steel or polymer plates bolted to a base plate to protect sensitive loads.
  • Adjustable/Stackable Pad Systems: Modular pad stacks to reach required pad height or adapt to variable load geometry.
  • Cushioning & Vibration Pads: Designed to dampen impact during handling or transport.

Typical Applications;

  • Crane spreader and lifting beam protection for coated or delicate surfaces.
  • Load distribution under lifting lugs, skids, engines, presses and machinery.
  • Protection of finished surfaces (painted, galvanized or plated) during hoisting.
  • Shipyard, precast, and modular building lifts where contact protection is critical.
  • Temporary pad blocks and sacrificial protection for repeat lifting operations.

Design & Engineering:

  • Custom CAD layouts and contact-surface analysis for each pad to ensure even pressure distribution and correct bearing area.
  • Working Load Limit (WLL) calculations and safety factor selection per client or code requirements.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) available for high-stress or asymmetric loading conditions.
  • Consideration of temperature, chemical exposure and slip resistance in material selection.

Materials & Fabrication:

  • Bases: fabricated from high-strength structural steel (S275/S355 or equivalents) using precision Structural Steel Fabrication techniques.
  • Faces: vulcanized rubber, bonded polyurethane, UHMW, or replaceable steel/polymer sacrificial plates.
  • Fixings: countersunk/flush bolt pockets, captive bolts, or welded studs to secure pad faces.
  • CNC profiling, press brake forming and certified welding (WPS/WPQ) for consistent, traceable quality.

Testing, Certification & Documentation:

  • Load testing and witnessable proof checks on request (test certificates provided).
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) for critical welds where applicable (MPI/UT).
  • Full documentation: Material Test Certificates (MTC), welding records, NDT reports, proof-load certificates, and product data sheets.
  • Tagging and marking for traceability and asset management.

Surface Finish & Corrosion Protection:

  • Shot blasting and primer + industrial paint or epoxy finishes for general use.
  • Hot-dip galvanizing or stainless steel options for marine/offshore and corrosive environments.
  • Abrasion-resistant overlays or sacrificial plates available where repeated contact occurs.

Safety, Inspection & Maintenance:

  • Supplied with use and inspection guidance: visual checks before each lift, torque recommendations for bolts, and periodic certified inspection intervals.
  • Replaceable sacrificial faces simplify maintenance and extend usable life.
  • Recommendations for pad orientation, cleaning and storage to maximize service life.

Lead Time & Customisation:

  • Fast feasibility sketches and pad-sizing proposals available on request.
  • Lead time depends on complexity and protective face choice—standard pad sizes are fastest; custom geometries or special materials take longer.
  • Capacities range from small handling pads (hundreds of kg) to large lifting pads rated for multiple tonnes—provide load, contact area and operating environment for precise quoting.

Why PTI for Lifting Pad Fabrication?

  • Integrated service: engineering → Structural Steel Fabrication → certified welding → testing → documentation.
  • Tailored protection solutions to suit load type, surface sensitivity and environmental exposure.
  • Durable finishes and replaceable sacrificial options for cost-effective long-term use.
  • Compliance-ready documentation and traceability for industrial and heavy-lift operations.
